Something Brave…

bravery (v.) doing something in spite of the fact that it completely terrifies you

So I did something brave today.  To celebrate my 26th birthday I gave myself a new adventure… I opened an Etsy shop.

Now, let’s backtrack for a minute…

You all know by now that I’m getting married in just a few months. Over the last year and a half I have had a lot, and I mean A LOT, of fun planning and designing and imaging what it will all look like when it finally comes together.

And when I stopped to think about how fun it was for me, I thought about all the other females in the world doing the exact same things I’m doing right now. How were they feeling? Were they having fun like me or were they stressed, overwhelmed, tired, confused, lost?

So, like usual, I thought of a crazy idea… “How great would it be to keep this fun momentum going? I’m going to open an Etsy shop!”

Now, living in a small town like mine, I thought, “okay how the heck am I going to do that?”

Then I remembered how much Etsy helped me pick and choose some additions to my wedding, I thought, that’s it! That, combined with the few design classes I took in college, and the countless graphics I designed in my current and previous jobs have only helped fuel this fire.

Fast forward almost a year…

I did it. I opened an Etsy shop. And here I am ready to tell the world, well maybe only a piece of it, that’d love to help inspire other girls in my shoes through my brand new Etsy shop: Designs by Melissa.

Whether your planning a wedding, hosting a bridal shower, bachelorette party, engagement party or even a birthday party, Designs by Melissa is you invitation haven. This little corner of the world is my new creative center.

Now what I need is for all of you big dreamers, bloggers, readers, wedding planners, gossipers, moms, sisters, cousins and friends… Please share my shop and help my big dream grow a little further. 🙂

Feel free to browse my shop at: Or leave a comment if you’re looking for something specific.

Always remember, live fearlessly & design happy… Until next time 😉

Hey Voice, Are You Out There?

lyrics (n.) the words of a song, poem or verse

So, I know you kind of have to have a good singing voice to be a singer, but what about the lyrics?

Has anyone ever stopped listening to the voice and started listening to the lyrics in a song? I have. And what I hear are heart felt tales of love, sadness, joy, anger, excitement, frustration, confusion, fear, wonder and pain.

No two songs are alike, just like no two lyrics are alike. But they all have a special meaning to the person behind the words… the songwriter. That’s me. The writer with a million little lyrics filling her head with every second she breathes. The writer that has everything to say with no voice to say it, or sing it really.

So I wonder, will they ever be heard? Maybe someday. Maybe never. But maybe they will forever be my endless emotions on a blank page; shared with no one but me and that piece of paper.

But I secretly wish there could be someone out there to hear them, read them, see them, know them, relate to them, understand them, analyse them, feel them, live them, or just believe in them.

I have found a small group of people who already do all those things, and I love them all deeply. I’m sure you can guess who they are. 🙂 But I will never stop wanting more, fighting for more, hoping for more, writing for more, and dreaming for more.

So until that day comes, here I sit. I’ll just keep filling these blank pages with my emotions, thoughts and words. And who knows, one day, maybe someone else will be changed by my “voice.”

I may not have the voice, but I’ll always have the words.

Between the Lines

reading between the lines: (v.) deciphering the meaning or context behind a written message or thought

How many times has someone asked you to read between the lines? Whether intentionally hiding something’s true meaning or inadvertently figuring it out when you maybe weren’t supposed too… reading between the lines is not always easy to do.

Sometimes it’s not easy for a person to express their feelings. Sometimes they don’t have the right words to share their thoughts. And sometimes they use enough metaphors that what they’re really saying can be multiple things.

As a writer, I think that is a challenge we face on a daily basis … especially as an aspiring lyricist. I just love listening to the words of a song and trying to figure out the true message of those words. Continue reading

Dissecting Dilemmas

dilemma: (n.) a situation requiring a choice between equally undesirable alternatives

Have you ever been faced with a dilemma? A dilemma so big and so challenging it keeps you stressed, unfocused, unmotivated and over-thinking every detail that it completely consumes you? Well, that’s how I feel today. Actually, that’s how I’ve felt for the last two weeks and let me tell you, it’s a struggle.

They say open door must close for a new door to open, they just never clued you into how hard it would be to close that first door.

Now that life has presented a new set of joys: engagement, love, happiness, starting a family, moving in with your future husband, a new home, marriage… There are things a person must leave behind: jobs, friends, tears, apartments. Continue reading

L.O.V.E Photographs

You can tell a lot about a person from the pictures they take. You can picture the reality of what it’s like to be in the photo. You can see how in love two people are. You can imagine how a family acts when they are together. You can tell who a girl’s best friend is.
Two girls. Two smiles. One memory. Best friends.

The dictionary defines a best friend as the one friend closest to you. A simple picture can bring more life to those words than the dictionary can. Everyone has their own definition of what it means to be a best friend. Everyone values different qualities in a friend.

Honesty. Trust. Kindness. Loyalty. Respect. Caring. Dedication. Humor. Love.  Continue reading
